Congratulations to Leticia Moreinos Schwartz, whose healthy Latin cookbook will be published by Skyhorse next Fall!
Leticia is a chef and cookbook author, whose last two cookbooks have been about Brazilian cuisine. Here she is widening the aperture to cover healthy Latin eating more generally. Her inspiration was her work over the past five years as a spokesperson for America’s Diabetes Challenge, a campaign by Merck and the American Diabetes Association (ADA) to raise awareness about effective diabetes prevention and management techniques through healthy living. The campaign has sent Leticia and fellow spokespeople Tim McGraw and S. Epatha Merkerson on hundreds of talks and media appearances around the country.
During her travels for America’s Diabetes Challenge, Leticia realized one major reason why Hispanic adults are twice as likely to be diagnosed with diabetes as white non-Hispanic Americans is because they are consuming an Americanized version of traditional Latin cuisine, high in salt, saturated fats, and calories. Fewer homemade meals, more microwavable burritos. Super Foods, Super Latin! shows how maintaining a healthy Latin diet has never been easier – for Latinos, and for anyone interested in trying Latin cooking at home. Beyond offering a range of dishes to fit any palate, Super Foods, Super Latin! highlights positive aspects of Latin lifestyle and culture, and imparts a philosophy of joy in the kitchen.
Congrats to Leticia, and to her editor at Skyhorse, Leah Zarra!
