ABOUT ME

I represent ambitious adult nonfiction by journalists, scholars, scientists, historians, chefs, physicians, and other experts with something important to say. Across narrative history, investigative journalism, science and medicine, food and culture, politics and public policy, and select cookbooks, I look for books that combine deep expertise or original reporting with compelling storytelling. Recent projects have explored the Continental Navy and the privateers who helped win the American Revolution; how suicide, even when unspoken, shapes American families and communities across generations; what China’s regional noodle cultures reveal about the country’s history and contemporary life; what it means to live today with an inherited genetic disease; environmental pollution in the food system; and the rapidly expanding world of unconventional education.

Before founding Sinsheimer Literary in 2016, I spent seven years as an editor at Oxford University Press, where I managed its acclaimed food and drink Companion series, including The Oxford Companion to Spirits and Cocktails, The Oxford Companion to Cheese, and The Oxford Companion to Sugar and Sweets. That experience introduced me to many of the leading voices in food and nutrition—among them Marion Nestle, the first author I represented.

My editorial background continues to shape the way I work as an agent. I collaborate closely with authors on proposals and manuscripts, help position their ideas in a crowded marketplace, and identify what makes each project distinctive. Since founding the agency, I have placed books with Penguin Random House, HarperCollins, Simon & Schuster, Macmillan, and leading independent and university presses.

I have a B.A. in English from Middlebury College and an M.A. in Liberal Studies from Duke University. I live in Washington, D.C., with my wife and daughter, where I’m usually reading proposals, editing manuscripts, or playing an unhealthy amount of online chess.
