SOLD! Drink Like a Geek (by Jeff Cioletti)

I'm pleased to report that Mango Books (Miami, FL) will publish Jeff Cioletti's Drink Like a Geek: Adult Beverages for the Nerd in All of Us next May!

Jeff is the author of the books The Year of Drinking Adventurously (Turner, 2015), Beer FAQ (Backbeat Books, 2016), and The Drinkable Globe (Turner, 2017), as well as the forthcoming Sake-Pedia! (Fun fact, Jeff is a Certified International Kikisake-shi, or sake sommelier.) He is also the former Editor-in-Chief of Beverage World magazine, and the winner of multiple North American Guild of Beer Writers awards. Although Jeff is primarily known as a beverage journalist, he is also a geek at heart, particularly when it comes to Star Wars. Jeff produced Millenium’s End: The Fandom Menace (2000), a documentary chronicling the anticipation for Star Wars, Episode I: The Phantom Menace prior to its release in May 1999, and a 2004 sequel called Galaxy’s End: Revenge of the Myth, revisiting most of the same fans interviewed in the late ’90s who were, to put it mildly, disappointed by Episode 1.

Drink Like a Geek is a marriage of Jeff's twin passions for geek culture and adult libations. Unlike recipe-oriented genre cookbooks and cocktail books, Drink Like a Geek will first and foremost be a pop-culture narrative about the drinking cultures of science fiction, fantasy, comic book, B-movie, and videogame franchises and their fans. We’ll head to Dragon*Con and sip a solo cup of Romulan Ale proffered by a Trekkie in full Klingon prosthetics and regalia, and then pull up a stool at Guinan’s bar and have a deep conversation about the social drinking habits beyond the stars. We’ll go on a bicoastal bar crawl and toast the coin-operated culture of videogame bars like New Jersey’s Barcade and Portland’s Ground Control. And we’ll explore recent crossovers between space nerdery and booze geekery: beer fermented by yeasts propagated outside earth’s atmosphere, vodkas filtered through meteorites, and Scotch whiskies shot into orbit. The final frontier, indeed!
