Steve Hendricks is a freelance reporter and author of two nonfiction books, A Kidnapping in Milan: The CIA on Trial (Norton, 2010) and The Unquiet Grave: The FBI and the Struggle for the Soul of Indian Country (Da Capo, 2006). The latter made several best-of-the-year lists in 2006 and was recently optioned for television. His seminal article about fasting, “Starving Your Way to Vigor,” was published on the cover of Harper’s in 2012 and anthologized in 2017 in Know That What You Eat You Are: The Best Food Writing from Harper’s Magazine. Steve has also published with OutsideSlateSalon, Washington Post Book WorldThe New RepublicSierraOrion, and DoubleTake, and an article of his for the Columbia Journalism Review made the Longreads Top 5 of the Week in 2015. Steve's past work has been supported with a grant from the Fund for Investigative Journalism. His website is SteveHendricks.org.

Steve was raised in Arkansas and Texas and educated at Yale. He lives in Boulder, Colorado, with his wife, a law professor; their son, a soon-to-be-departing teenager; and their rescued Labrador–border collie. He spends an awful lot of time watching FC Barcelona and deciding whether to have that second IPA.
